I always enjoy coming to this dinner. For me,  it grounds me to be amongst the people and families that make the HPV work and run.  It reminds me of so many things. Not only memories of growing up in Waipio in the middle of the pineapple fields, but it also reminds me of whats important to me.  What's important to me, first of all, is supporting the non-profit organization, bringing new staff members to this event to expose them to just an inkling of what this organization is all about and what the HPV does for everyone. Secondly, to remind myself of where our food ideas come from. And last, but not least, to remind me that the gift of time, volunteering your time, to affect the greater good, is what these people do and is far greater than what money can buy.  I am glad they have this event to honor the hard working docents who "tell a story" when you take that tour at the village. We still bring new staff members to experience the village and learn the past and it was good that they got to see the docents being honored the way they were.  A famous chef said, " to understand the present, you must understand the past."
