This is the only winery in Hawaii. It reminded me of the American Harvest Workshop I participated in 1990 with Cakebread Cellars in Napa, California. We’d wake up at four am and go into the fields, harvest grapes, then follow the grapes to the winery and watch it get pressed. Continuing to follow the process, we'd finish with a wine tasting and discussion. A short while later, we'd board a bus and visit local farms and producers, picking up product at each stop. We'd head home, plan our dinner, with a few food writers listening to us plan it; and then we'd go into the kitchen and prep dinner along with the food writers. In the end…dinner! with Cakebread Wines, of course, the sponsors of this wonderful event. They would pick about five up-and-coming chefs to do this every year. We made lifelong friendships and went home with a much greater appreciation for our very own local products and farmers, and with a better understanding of the winemaking process.
