Took a trip out to Mari's Garden in Mililani, one mile away from where I grew up. It is closer to the Kipapa Gulch area and once used to be covered in pineapple fields. Wow, it has changed so much. Fred started in landscaping and still does that, but he has started an aquaponics operation -- growing tilapia, manoa lettuce, and many other types of lettuce and things. I was impressed. I like the fact that if we bought from him, we would be supporting another local business that exists where I grew up. We currently buy tofu from the Honda family in Wahiawa, as well as eggs from Peterson Farms up in Wahiawa heights. It looks promising. We had a nice chat and it seems like we can do something together. We will keep you posted.
