Today was the first day of the second annual Hawaii Food and Wine Festival. It was held at the Modern Hotel. Pictured here are Roy Yamaguchi, Iron Chefs Hiroyuki Sakai and Masaharu Morimoto, Chai Chaowasoree, Roy Choi, Sang Yoon, Ming Tsai,Marco Anzani , and myself. 800 people, 12 chefs, great wineries and cocktails -- awesome opening nite. What is really important when over 60 chefs come from all over the world and cook with local products is that the spotlight is on Hawaii - its farmers and products, our culture, and our cuisine. This spotlight brings attention to Hawaii, making people aware of what we really have here to cook with and eventually bringing people here to look for more than luaus, spam, and dishes cooked with pineapple or macadamia nuts.
